Technical Writer

Technical writers at GitLab shape the product experience, applying their expertise to the content that determines how users understand, interact with, and adopt GitLab’s features.

At GitLab, our team of technical writers works at the intersection of product, engineering, design, and marketing. We define how GitLab’s features are communicated across documentation and UI text, ensuring content is clear, accurate, and easy to use. We influence product direction by bringing a deep understanding of how words shape user success in a rapidly evolving DevSecOps platform.

Our team is also responsible for optimizing the creation, management, and deployment of documentation. We manage the systems that ensure quality at scale, from the governance and orchestration of AI workflows to deterministic testing and linting.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with GitLab engineers, product managers, designers, and UX researchers to translate features and design decisions into intuitive, user-friendly UI text and scalable documentation that meets our users’ needs.
  • Dive in on special projects, planning and authoring new content, and helping to develop new docs site features and processes.
  • Collaborate with others across the organization to craft new and improved content. You’ll be at the leading edge of DevOps while contributing to one of the world’s largest open-source projects and engaging with our wider community.

    • Using approved AI tools safely and efficiently in these workflows, and writing effective prompts.
    • Using the Linux shell and command-line Git.
    • Some of the following:
      • Using DevOps tools and open-source software.
