The CEO reports to the Board of Directors of GitLab, Inc.

Responsibilities

  • Set overall strategy
  • Hire great people. Help people that are not a good fit find another job
  • Provide direction for product development with the Chief Product Officer
  • Communicate company vision and goals to the entire team and the rest of the community
  • Lead by example
  • Praise the right behaviour
  • Keep the board of directors and investors well-informed and engaged in GitLab’s continued growth and success
  • Ensure there is enough cash at all times. Secure funding for the company, if needed
  • Continue to be deeply engaged with the entire GitLab community through active discussions on Hacker News, Twitter, etc.
  • Make sure that GitLab Inc. acts in the interest of the GitLab community
  • Pricing and business model
  • Actively engage in mergers and acquisitions, if and when those are appropriate
  • Oversee the continued build out of a great team
  • Leadership at GitLab

Chief of Staff to the CEO

The Chief of Staff to the CEO is a very talented individual who serves as a trusted advisor and confidant to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Chief of Staff to the CEO and the CEO work closely together to get twice as much done as the CEO would be able to do alone. The Chief of Staff to the CEO leads the Office of the CEO at GitLab.

This is a senior leadership role. This role does not do any work our Executive Business Administrators (EBAs) are already doing, for example, calendaring. Internal Strategy Intern

The Internal Strategy Intern reports to the Chief of Staff to the CEO and works to support the Office of the CEO. Internal consultants can quickly gather and analyze all data related to a problem and present next steps. They are the internal strategy consultants of GitLab who move from problem to problem in different functional areas.

Responsibilities

  • Drive special projects that are urgent and important. Most of these will be of a strategic and cross-functional nature
  • Fill in knowledge gaps of the Chief of Staff to the CEO
  • Identify procedural gaps in existing workflows and work to resolve with optimization, automation, and data
  • Support the creation of prepared materials (documents, decks) for the Chief of Staff to the CEO
  • Translate practical needs into technical requirements
  • Execute on assignments from the Chief of Staff to the CEO, as directed
  • Demonstrate GitLab values in all work

Requirements

  • Experience at a strategy consulting firm is preferred
  • 2+ years experience in high growth startup environments is desired
  • Detail-oriented forward thinker, familiar with the industry
  • Excellent written, verbal, and technical communicator
  • Experience making data-driven decisions
  • Able to manage multiple tasks with competing timelines and deliverables
  • Track record of leadership independent of role
  • History of working cross-functionally to move projects forward
  • Ability to use GitLab
