PR Manager

Role

The GitLab PR Manager will help GitLab build thought leadership and drive conversation in external communications channels. This position is responsible for contributing to developing and overseeing different aspects of the public relations (PR) strategy at GitLab, and will work across global teams to develop and execute public relations (PR) campaigns in line with GitLab’s key initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Think globally to implement global PR campaigns.
  • Execute thought leadership, product, partner, technical, channel, crisis, rapid response and proactive PR campaigns.
  • Manage GitLab’s PR agency relationship and develop a PR program in line with overall corporate marketing objectives and goals.
  • Work closely with executives, spokespeople and the greater organization to develop press releases, blog posts and media relations strategy for GitLab announcements and news.
  • Collaborate across the organization to support the news cycle through various channels, as well as educate teams on news.
  • Oversee the GitLab awards submission program.
  • Respond to daily media inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Have your finger on the pulse of the news and provide an overview of interesting news and trends.
  • Report back on press activities, coverage, opportunities, successes and press feedback.
  • Measure our PR successes in relation to awareness and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Execute PR plans that align with the team’s OKRs and goals.
  • Work day-to-day with media and global PR agencies to support PR efforts and campaigns.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to seek out potential news/announcements or proactive story ideas for thought leadership.
  • Strong self-starter and ability to independently manage projects from start to finish.

Requirements

  • 6+ years experience in public relations, preferrably at least 2-3 years of agency experience.
  • Experience in enterprise software or developer public relations.
  • Ability to develop strategic and proactive PR plans in coordination with the PR team and wider corporate communications team.
  • Experience working with technology, business, and trade media to achieve impression goals.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • A natural storyteller with excellent writing skills.

The Senior PR Manager is a grade 7.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PR strategy and vision.
  • Collaborate across teams to determine PR calendar.
  • Determine ways to drive traffic to site to support various intiatives.
  • Manage and mentor members of the team to grow in their PR careers.
  • Responsible for ideation of PR activities, OKRs, and reporting on results.

Content

The content specialty covers developing and overseeing the PR content strategy, which includes contributed articles, thought leadership content for PR campaigns and proactive media outreach, customer case study promotion, press release development and award submissions. As a part of the PR content strategy, this role oversees media sponsorship enagagements, leads content ideation, drafting content and ensuring GitLab is maximizing and fulfillling the sponsorship agreements. This role also ensures the GitLab Press Page, Press Kit and Corporate Communications Handbook pages are updated regularly.

Events

This specialty maps to the Field Marketing and Corporate Event departments at GitLab. The event specialty covers developing and overseeing the PR strategy for 3rd party tradeshows and GitLab hosted-events.

Partner and Channel

This specialty maps to the partner and channel marketing department at GitLab. The partner and channel specialty covers developing and overseeing the PR strategy, announcements and campaigns related to any tech partners or channel partners. This includes promotion of key technology integrations and alliances, promotion of key channel partnerships, reviewing partner-led announcements around joining the GitLab Partner Program, and developing proactive partner storylines for press engagements and events. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring partner and channel storylines are integrated for a holistic GitLab offering view.

Product

This specialty maps to the Product Marketing department at GitLab. The product specialty covers developing and overseeing the PR product strategy, which includes promotion of releases, developing product storylines for press engagements, and product awards submissions. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring partner and channel storylines are integrated for a holistic GitLab offering view.

Public Sector

This specialty maps to the Public Sector department at GitLab. The Public Sector specialty will support the Public Sector among other related focus areas such as security and channel partner efforts. This role will support a wide range of existing communications activities, work cross functionally across internal teams on campaigns and also have the opportunity to build and manage dedicated programs. The role will be responsible for proactive storytelling; partnering with the Public Sector, Security, Channel, and Marketing teams to support announcements and proactive PR campaigns; executing event focused PR programs; and coordinating with global PR agencies. The ideal candidate for the role will have 2+ years experience working in the Public Sector, must be a United States citizen, strong media relations experience, experience working with external PR agencies/partners, and an enthusiasm to be part of a high performing corporate communications team that represents GitLab, the complete DevOps platform.

Manager, PR

The Manager is a grade 8.

The GitLab Manager, PR will lead a team of PR managers to build GitLab thought leadership and drive conversation in external communications channels. This position is responsible for leading the PR team focused on developing and overseeing the PR strategy and campaigns for product, security, verticals and partner and channel at GitLab. This person will not only manage a team of PR professionals but will also work across global teams to provide strategic guidance and develop and execute PR campaigns for tier one partners and GitLab campaigns.
