Financial Security

Pension Insurance

GitLab administers pension insurance through ELO to secure your financial future. Both you and GitLab contribute to ensure you’re building toward retirement from day one.

Contribution Rates & Eligibility

Eligibility: All Finland team members

Contribution Rates:

  • Ages 17-52: 7.15% (employee) + 17.40% (employer)
  • Ages 53-62: 8.65% (employee) + 17.40% (employer)
  • Ages 63-67: 7.15% (employee) + 17.40% (employer)

Contributions are automatically handled through payroll.

Group Life & Accident Insurance

Comprehensive life and accident coverage through IF Insurance.

Coverage Details

Eligibility: All Finland team members from hire date

Coverage: Automatic enrollment with professional claims support

Unemployment Insurance

GitLab handles unemployment insurance contributions for your future financial security.

Rates & Eligibility

Eligibility: Team members aged 17-64

Rates (2022): 1.50% employee contribution, automatically deducted through payroll


Family & Life Transitions

Annual Holiday Leave

Holiday entitlement grows with your tenure to ensure you have time to recharge.

Holiday Entitlement

Entitlement:

  • Less than 12 months service: 2 days/month totaling 2 weeks
  • 12+ months service: 2.5 days/month totaling 30 days per year
  • All team members are allowed to carry over up to 24 workdays into the next calendar year, but the balance expires 1 year from the accrual on April 1st annually.

Pregnancy Leave
  • 40 working days from Kela
  • Start 14-30 days before due date
Parental Leave
  • Each parent: 160 days (63 transferable)
  • Single parents: 320 days total
  • Multiple births: +84 days per additional child
  • Take in up to 4 periods before child turns 2

Maternity Leave: 105 working days

Paternity Leave: Up to 54 working days (18 can overlap with maternity)

Parental Leave: 158 working days after maternity

Adoption Leave: 233 days from child’s birth

  2. Absence Management team will contact you
  3. GitLab’s 16-week policy runs concurrently when allowed

Sick Leave

9 days of sick leave, runs concurrently with GitLab’s global Sick Time policy. Plus Finland’s sickness allowance system for extended illness.

  • Kela sickness allowance after 9 working days
  • Partial allowance available for part-time work during recovery

Temporary Child Care Leave: 4 days for sudden child illness (under age 10)

Government Duty Leave: Time off for municipal government positions

Natural Event Leave: Up to 14 days paid for uncontrollable events (fires, disasters)
