Health & Wellbeing

Private Medical Insurance

GitLab provides comprehensive private medical coverage through VHI, giving you access to quality medical treatments, health screenings, and protection against high medical costs. We cover 100% of the premiums for you and your eligible dependents.

Eligibility Requirements
  • All full-time team members

  • Coverage includes:

    • Team member’s spouse
    • Domestic partner
    • Children up to age 21 (if enrolled in school). Please make sure to certify that your dependent is still enrolled in school when enrolling them. To do so, members need to sign up using the Online Enrolment portal and there will be a prompt to confirm Yes or No if they are a Student, there is no further details provided at this point as VHI will accept the members answer upon application.
Coverage & Key Features
Lifetime Community Rating (LCR)

From 1st of May 2015, if you are 35 or over when you first take out private health insurance, you will pay an additional amount of 2% for each year that you are aged 35 and over. Please contact VHI if you think this may apply.

How to Enroll
  1. Visit the VHI online portal or call VHI
  2. Enter your GitLab Employee ID as “Employee Number”
  3. Enter your GitLab Department (from Workday) as “Cost Centre”
  4. Choose PMI 4316 or call 056 777 5800 to discuss your needs

Tax Considerations

Health insurance is treated as a Benefit in Kind under Revenue Commissioner rules. Your normal tax rate applies. Learn more about tax implications.

Eye Care

Under the Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Regulations 2007, GitLab provides eye care benefits for team members.

Coverage & Key Features
  • Regular eye and eyesight exam reimbursement
  • Up to €140 reimbursement for computer glasses (if medically required for VDU use only)
  • Submit VHI claims first, then remaining costs through Navan
How to Claim
  1. Get eye exam and prescription
  2. Submit eligible costs through VHI first
  3. Submit remaining receipts via Navan and email the prescription to total-rewards@gitlab.com

Financial Security

Pension Plan

GitLab offers a defined contribution pension scheme through Aviva, administered by NFP Ireland, designed to help you build financial security for retirement. Effective 2025-11-01, all new hires will be automatically enrolled under our company plan.

NEW (January 2026) - Pension Auto Enrolment Regulation
  • Starting January 1, 2026, Ireland’s new Auto Enrolment pension scheme (called “My Future Fund”) becomes mandatory. All eligible employees who are not already contributing to a workplace pension scheme will be automatically enrolled in this government-run pension program.
  • Opportunity: Team Members can join our superior company DC pension plan and avoid being automatically enrolled in the less beneficial government scheme.
  • Key Advantages of our Company Plan: 5% employer contribution (compared to 1.5% employer contribution in Auto Enrolment’s first phase), complete contribution flexibility - contribute any amount 1% and above and still be exempt from Auto Enrolment - (compared to mandatory 1.5% employee contribution), Income tax relief on your contributions, reducing your actual cost, Flexible investment options with professional fund management, No mandatory waiting periods or restricted opt-out windows.

GitLab Pension Scheme Coverage
  • New hires are automatically enrolled under the Aviva plan, with a 1.5% Employee and Employer contribution
  • Team members can increase their contribution and GitLab matches up to 5% of annual base salary

Disability Coverage

Full-time team members receive disability coverage providing 66% of base salary (less social welfare) to age 65.

Ireland’s statutory sick leave policy offers a floor level of protection and does not interfere with existing, more favorable, sick pay schemes such as GitLab’s Sick Time policy. When allowed by law, GitLab’s Sick Leave policy will run concurrently with this leave policy.

Growing Family Leaves

Maternity Leave

GitLab provides comprehensive maternity leave support that goes beyond statutory requirements.

Statutory Entitlement
  • 26 weeks ordinary maternity leave
  • Additional 16 weeks unpaid leave available
  • Must start 2 weeks before due date
  • Minimum 4 weeks after birth
GitLab Support
  • 100% salary for up to 16 weeks (includes state benefit top-up)
  • State Maternity Benefit: €262/week (subject to PRSI)
  • Support throughout your leave journey

Adoptive Leave

  • 24 weeks ordinary adoptive leave
  • Additional 16 weeks unpaid leave available
  • Begins on placement date
GitLab Support
  • 100% salary for up to 16 weeks (includes state benefit top-up)
  • State Adoptive Benefit: €262/week (subject to PRSI)

Paternity Leave

Time to bond with your newborn.

  • GitLab tops up to 100% salary

Parent’s Leave

Extended support for new parents.

Parental Leave

Midwife Support (for VHI Members)

VHI’s Midwife Support Service provides expectant parents with dedicated support throughout pregnancy and after birth.

Carer’s Leave

Support when caring for loved ones.

Leave Entitlement
  • Up to 104 weeks unpaid leave
  • For full-time care of qualifying person
  • Minimum 13-week periods
  • GitLab provides 100% salary for first 25 working days if receiving state benefit
