Group Insurance Plan - Medical & Risk Benefits

All Korea team members receive comprehensive group insurance coverage through Meritz. GitLab covers 100% of premiums for you and your eligible dependents—no cost to you for this valuable protection.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Team Members: Automatic enrollment upon start date
  • Dependents: Legal spouses and dependent children - for medical coverage only.
  • Coverage Start: First day of employment

  • Medical Coverage: Comprehensive reimbursement for hospitalization, outpatient visits, and specialized treatments
  • Risk Coverage: Protection for accidental death, accidental disability, and disease death - for team members only.
  • Specialized Treatments Covered: Manipulation therapy, ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy), Prolotherapy, injections, and MRI/MRA scans
  • Zero Premium Cost: GitLab pays 100% of all premiums

Retirement Planning

National Pension Scheme

All GitLab Korea team members are automatically enrolled in Korea’s National Pension Scheme as part of the Social Security Program, providing foundational retirement security.

GitLab does not currently offer supplemental pension benefits, as the National Pension Scheme provides comprehensive retirement coverage for all team members.

Growing Family Leaves

GitLab Korea provides comprehensive parental leave benefits that go beyond statutory requirements, ensuring you have the time and financial security to focus on your family during these important moments. The information below outlines the statutory entitlement for each leave, team members may be eligible for GitLab Parental Leave policy in addition to their statutory coverage.

Maternity Leave

Comprehensive maternity leave for all team members giving birth.

Eligibility Requirements
  • All team members giving birth
  • Includes coverage for miscarriage or stillbirth with scaled leave periods
Leave Entitlement
  • Standard Leave: 90 calendar days total
  • Multiple Births: Extended to 120 calendar days
  • Flexible Timing: Start date negotiable, but 45 days (60 for multiples) must follow delivery
  • Miscarriage/Stillbirth Support: 5-90 days based on pregnancy duration
  • 100% Pay Protection: GitLab supplements insurance payments to ensure full salary continuation
How to Access
  1. Submit leave request in Workday under “Parental Leave” category
  2. Provide at least 30 days advance notice when possible
  3. Coordinate start date with your manager

Paternity Leave

10 days of paid leave for new fathers to bond with their child and support their partner. If you are eligible, you will receive 100% paid Parental Leave from GitLab up to 16 weeks.

Leave Entitlement
  • Statutory Entitlment: 10 calendar days to Use within 90 days of birth
  • Flexible Usage: Take consecutively or split into two periods
  • 100% Paid: Full salary continuation through GitLab

Extended Parental Leave (Child Care Leave)

Up to one year of additional leave for ongoing childcare needs, available to eligible parents. Extended leave of up to 18 months may be available in certain circumstances.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Minimum of six months of GitLab employment prior to scheduled leave start date
  • Child must be eight years old or younger, or in second grade or below in elementary school
  • Pregnant employees may apply to protect their pregnancy
  • Parents cannot take leave simultaneously
Leave Entitlement
  • Duration: Up to one year per parent

  • Extended Duration: Up to 18 months total for parents who qualify under any of the following:

  • Both parents have taken at least three months of childcare leave each for the same child

  • Single parents as defined under the Single-Parent Family Support Act

  • Parents of a child with a qualifying disability as prescribed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor

  • Insurance Support: 40% salary from Employment Insurance Fund

  • GitLab Supplement: Additional support to reach 100% pay for up to 16 weeks (if eligible under GitLab’s Parental Leave policy)

Fertility Treatment Leave

Up to six days per year for team members receiving fertility treatment such as artificial insemination or in-vitro fertilization.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Available to all team members receiving qualifying fertility treatment
Leave Entitlement
  • Duration: Up to six days per year
  • Pay: First two days are paid; remaining days are unpaid
  • How to Request: Please provide advanced notice when possible. Medical documentation may be required. You can submit a HelpLab case to the Absence Management team for more information.

Family Care Leave

Leave to care for family members due to illness, accident, old age, or to care for a child.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Minimum six months of GitLab employment
  • Available for care of parent, grandparent, grandchild, child, spouse, or parent-in-law
Leave Entitlement
  • Short-term Family Care Leave: Up to 10 days per year (unpaid), can be split over multiple occasions
  • Extended Family Care Leave: Up to 90 days per year (unpaid), including any short-term leave taken. Minimum 30 days must be used at a time for extended leave.
  • How to Request: Please provide advanced notice when possible. You can submit a HelpLab case to the Absence Management team for more information.
Important Dates/Details
  • Advance Notice: 30 days required for all parental leave types
  • Documentation: Medical certificates required for maternity leave
  • Coordination: Work with Total Rewards team for insurance claims

Time Off Policies

Statutory Vacation

  • Team members with 0-1 year of service are entitled to 1 day/month or 12 days/year.
  • Team members with 1-3 years of service are entitled to 1.25 days/month or 15 days/year.
  • Team members with 3+ years of service are entitled to one additional day for every two years continuously worked up to 25 days/year.
  • Accrual balances reset January 1st of every year.
