Guidance for adding your GitLab contributions to LinkedIn as a community member

Your contributions to GitLab are a valuable part of your professional portfolio and you should proudly showcase them. Here’s how we recommend you highlight your contributions on LinkedIn.

Volunteering section

Add your GitLab contributions to the “Volunteering” section of your profile. This is a great way to highlight your involvement while accurately representing the nature of your work.

Projects section

Use the “Projects” section to showcase specific contributions, merge requests, or features you’ve worked on. You can link directly to your work on GitLab.

A note on the Experience section

To avoid confusion, please don’t list GitLab as an employer in the main “Experience” section unless you’re formally employed by GitLab. The “Volunteering” or “Projects” sections are better suited to represent your open source contributions and won’t create misunderstandings about your role at GitLab.
